Hoop Church is an outreach to the youth in our area here in the North Shore. Our purpose is to give kids a place to come and meet others who are saying "no" to peer pressures that can lead to harmful choices in life. We have guests come each week who tell their stories of how making wrong choices affected their lives and families and how they overcame these obstacles. They talk straight to the teens in attendance about the consequences of bad decisions and giving into peer pressure, yet also give strategies on how to cope with these pressures. We usually meet on Saturdays starting October 4th from 5pm to 6:30pm at the Teen Center at the Sterling YMCA in Beverly. We also may have events at Gordon College TBD. All Boys and Girls from 8th grade through High School are invited to come. Due to the mature subject matter and the real life issues our teens face today that are discussed openly, we ask that no one younger than 8th grade attend. We then serve pizza and have water, Gatorade and snacks for sale and play an activity after the speaker, video and discussion which includes basketball, dodge ball, and other games. Or, kids can choose to discuss privately what they have learned with the speaker and the leaders that are there or get private prayer for anything they are struggling with. Hoop Church is a place where your kids can find other teens that are facing the same pressures as they are and form new friendships with others who want to make good decisions. A lot of the kids who attend play basketball in one of our leagues but it is not required to do so. We encourage your kids to bring their friends to our Church. Most of our speakers openly talk about their faith and how they came to be victorious in life. We will never force faith in Jesus Christ on you or your kids but the opportunity to learn about Him and learn what the Bible says about living will always be available.
